Mission Statement
The mission of the “I Am An American Fund” is to promote and preserve the honor of American Veterans who have served or
are currently serving our country’s freedom. By brining a sense of honor and dignity to the American people, our desire is to show
our fellow citizens that being an American is a blessing.
Background
Grass-roots memorials to the war dead in Iraq and Afghanistan are spreading across America, and the
driving force behind them is often the same: to commemorate the individual veterans, rather than the wars.
Regrettably, the war on terror has been a costly war for our men and women in the armed forces. Between Iraq and Afghanistan
we have lost over 3,886 As of 12-05-2007. Americans and many more wounded. While that
number may seem small in context of past wars, their loss and the loss to their family and community is important.
When a serviceman or woman is lost in the battlefield, be it from Alabama to Maine, Texas to Alaska, or Idaho, the surviving
members of their squad will gather around and memorialize their fallen comrades. Some of the troops will pray, others might
recall funny stories, but make no mistake; this is a ceremony that is taken very seriously. Every soldier knows the next ceremony
might be for them.
